*** The highly-anticipated Shakepeare in the Park production of The Seagull, in which Phil plays a significant part [along with John Goodman, Natalie Portman, Meryl Streep and Kevin Kline] opens at the end of July. [zoe]
*** Phil is directing The Glory of Living, created by highly-acclaimed playwrite Rebecca Gilman. It opens or previews begin on October 30 at MCC Theatre in NYC. However, tickets probably won't be available until September. [zoe] Read all about that in the previous news installment below.
*** The Denise Show is probably not going to be called The Denise Show. I mean, I read that it's not going to be and I'd be pretty damn shocked if it ends up being called that. I'll let you know as soon as I have a better title. I guess I will take a reccommendation and call it Project X4.

*** Thanks to annonymous for the following:
Philip Seymour Hoffman has made his name in Hollywood and found himself on the cover of GQ. But from all indications, this 33-year-old actor may be most comfortable behind the scenes in small theaters Off Broadway. Well known from his performances in films like "The Talented Mr. Ripley" and "Boogie Nights," Mr. Hoffman has been increasingly active in theater, including a Tony- nominated turn in "True West" last season. He also directed the acclaimed new play "Jesus Hopped the A Train" for the LAByrinth Theater Company, of which he is a founder.
Now Mr. Hoffman will be directing again, this time for MCC Theater, the 99-seat playhouse on West 28th Street. The play is "Glory of Living" by the hot playwright Rebecca Gilman ("Spinning Into Butter," "Boy Gets Girl").
The Glory of Living is a grim tale about an impoverished trailer-park trash couple whose sprawling rampage leaves behind a trail of dead women. In The Glory of Living, a teenager named Lisa and her husband Clint, an ex-con twice her age, engage in gross acts of sex and violence that are as common to them as TV dinners. The haunting question is, can a young girl who has never been taught to value her own life value anyone else's?
Tickets for The Glory of Living will go on sale in September 2001 but the best way to ensure a seat is by subscribing now. Call us at 212.727.7765 before July 1st and you will receive last year's rate of 3 plays for $75. (Please make all inquiries and bookings by telephone only.)

*** Thanks to Zoe Max for the following tidbit:
Miramax is offering Paramount $1.5 million for rights
to John Kennedy Toole's novel, "A Confederacy of
Dunces," which it's hoping to make into a movie
directed by Steven Soderbergh. The studio is said to
be looking at Philip Seymour Hoffman to play the lead,
Ignatius J. Reilly.
*** Also thanks to Zoe Max for a new article.
*** Zoe Max again [YAY!!] reports that in the June issue of UK GQ magazine there's a four-page feature article on him inside dubbed "Hollywood Inc. Employee of the Year: Philip Seymour Hoffman."

*** Phil got a nice photo and blurb in the 2001 Academy Awards Special ten dollar magazine. I don't know where one of these can be obtained or if they are still available. I am adding the blurb to the bio info page, and will add the picture soon to the Misc. Magazine pictures.
*** Andrea informs us the Phil received a Drama Desk Award NOMINATION for Best Director for Jesus Hopped the A Train.
*** An annonymous source informs me that according to Bravo's schedule, Phil's appearance on Inside the Actor's Studio will be airing twice again on JUNE 19th. Check your local listings for times. I will hopefully have pictures and a transcript of this appearance sometime over the summer.
*** New title now for the Untitled PTA Project -- it is now being called The Denise Show by the Internet Movie Database, though Upcomingmovies.com states the contrary. Status = uncertain. Release date is currently set for DECEMBER 25, 2001. Let's hope, eh? PSH's character is Daryl Fitzsimmons, and he is apparently the only PTA regular returning in this film, apart from Luiz Guzman. Yay Phil!
*** Love, Liza is also slated for release this upcoming DECEMBER. Another big winter season for our man Phil. Unfortuneatly, as a huge Tolkien fan, I anticipate the LoftheR's film wiping everything else off the slate this holiday season.
*** Some old news....
Why? New York City Parks Commissioner Henry Stern, an eccentric who likes to give out nicknames, bestowed Lacey upon Hoffman on Tuesday night at the premiere of David Mamet's State and Main. The word Lacey comes from Hoffman's street in upstate New York.

*** I have now concluded my rebellious hiatus and have returned to work on this site. If you joined the NOTIFY LIST *before* the site crashed [viz--> before March 4th] then you ARE NO LONGER ON THE LIST AND WILL NEED TO SIGN UP AGAIN. Sorry kids. That's the way balls go.
*** Apparently my site kicks so much ass that A Natalie Portman Page has decided to link to me!
*** Thanks to Andrew for reporting that The Seagull will be performing July 24 through August 19th in New York, NY at the Delacourt Theatre in Central Park. Tickets are free. You can get them the day of the performance at the Public Theatre, and there are a couple of other places too aound the city including the actual theatre. Tickets are limited to two per person.
*** Greg of cigarettes & coffee: the definitive p.t. anderson resource reports that filming of the Untitled PTA Project wrapped a few weeks ago, you can read about it here. Check out the April 10th update. Also the cast is as follows: Sandler, Watson, Hoffman, Luis Guzman and Mary Lynn Rajskub. Also No John C. Reilly or Philip Baker Hall which means Phil Hoffman is the only actor to appear on all four of Paul's films...
