*** In the April issue of Premiere Magazine (with Angelina Jolie on the cover) there is a section on Sundance which includes a picture of Phil, Todd and Gordy (see the Sundance pictures page) and a caption that reads

LOVE LIZA "I've never had to carry a movie before," says Philip Seymour Hoffman, who earned kudos for his work in this drama penned by his brother, Gordy, winner of the Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award. Hoffman's ex-roommate, Todd Louiso, directed.

*** Rumor has it that Phil's appearance on Inside the Actors Studio will be reairing on Bravo this month around March 18th. Check your LOCAL LISTINGS for details. [thanks to Catherine for the tip]

*** Red Dragon's release date has, sadly, been pushed back to November 22nd, 2002. At least it's still supposed to come out this year, eh? The Japan release date is currently set as July 19 but I have trouble thinking that it will be released to Japan first. I still have a problem with Ralph Fiennes as the killer. I mean... I love him and all [hot body.. drool...] but that's the POINT, Dolerhyde [sp?] is meant to be DEFORMED and... the good Fiennes man is anything BUT deformed. If deformed were the bright center of the universe, Ralph Fiennes would be on the outer reaches of the known galaxy.

*** So what is UP with Last Party 2000? I had heard that there was new stuff at the website but I can't view the website [says the server isn't found]. At this point, there is no reason to release this film to theaters. I for one would rather just purchase the special edition DVD and relish in Phil-ness. Please release the damn film!!!!

*** I just noticed that Phil is going to play the "bad guy" in that upcoming Paul Thomas Anderson film [the one which lacks a title]. Cool! I wish we could see him as a... comic book villian... mmm... Phil in spandex? HELL YEAH!!!

    2-22-2001
*** VOLTAGE -- Upcoming Robert Altman film, scheduled to begin production in May this year will feature PHIL as well as some other really fucking AWESOME folks like Steve Buscemi, William H. Macy, Elliot Gould, Joaquin Phoenix, and Harry Belafonte (damn he's still alive!). Oh and Tony Shalhoub! He was so great in Galaxy Quest. Yeah! I'm excited about this one! Who knows what it's about, but who cares right? It's Robert Altman! And Phil... and the great Buscemi... that makes me really happy.

*** That Paul Thomas Anderson film that just can't abide having an actual title is now being called The X-4 Project and according to a few sources may have its world premiere at Cannes in May. Well, that's just dandy. I'd love to have some... I dunno, actual info on this film, its title and when it will be released. Another title floating around in conjunction with the film is After Eden but I gotta say, that's a rather dramatic sounding title. This is a comedy... hmmm...

    1-26-2001
*** LOVE LIZA: THE WEBSITE (thanks Frits!)

*** Sadly, Phil is not going to appear in the Chicago production of Long Day's Journey Into Night.

    1-19-2001
*** Love Liza makes its debut at The Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah. A big hit as I understand, and it has been bought up by Sony Pictures Classics. They're cool. They distributed the film Wilde. Anyway, there are some new artcles about that.

    1-13-2001
*** In the January 4 issue of Entertainment Weekly (with Russell Crowe on the cover), there appearred several 'In Memorium' articles written by celebrities. Phil wrote one for Jason Robards. If you missed the issue, click here to read the transcript.

    12-30-2001
*** Announcing the opening of Pamela's JOHN C. REILLY Pages!!! At long last and thank goodness, I give you the first ever JCR fan site on the entire bloody internet!!! HELL YEAH!!!! Pamela is awesome! Go see this site NOW!

*** Rumors flying about Phil's possible involvement in a production of Long Day's Journey Into Night at the Goodman Theater in Chicago: They're trying to get him in on it, and should know in the next few weeks whether he will be. I'd say that it's about 50/50 from where I sit as to whether he will or won't. I'll let you know.

*** Lee reports that the play "Jesus Hopped the A Train" is having its midwest premier in Chicago February 28th, 2002. It will run through March 31st and it will be in the "Garage Space" at Steppenwolf Theater. Over there it will be directed Ron O.J. Parson. Of course this means that Phil isn't exactly related, yeah, but if you wanted to see the play that Phil did direct (am I wrong in assuming that he was the first to direct this play?), there you have it!

    12-18-2001
*** Phil's appearance on Inside the Actors Studio on Bravo is rumored to be reairing on January 31st. Check your local listings. [Thanks Lee]

*** Dates for Jesus Hopped the A-Train in London at the Donmar Warehouse are March 6 - 30. [Thanks Justin]

*** Yes, Love Liza will screen at this year's Sundance Film Festival. That'll be during the week of January 13th. The film is only 93 minutes long. *whew* [thanks Frits, Lee, Emily, and others for the info on this]

    11-30-2001
*** PHIL IS GUNNA BE IN RED DRAGON!!!!!!!!!! Ok, I am the hugest fan in the WORLD of the Thomas Harris Lecter novels and to find out that Phil is going to BE Freddie Lounds [who is the sleezy tabloid reporter who gets... um.. spoiler: killed. Just like another Freddie that Phil played.] I just about had a HEART ATTACK!!! PHIL!!! YOU KICK ASS!!! Word, if there was ever the greatest combination of actors: Sir Tony and Phil. Even though they wouldn't have any scenes together. Well, and on top of all that is HARVEY KEITEL. Hell yeah! [Thank you Jen for sending me a link that really got me soooo happy!!!!]

*** Yet another title for the PTA film: Punchdrunk Knuckle Love. Lettuce see how long this one lasts.

*** Last Party 2000 is now *suposedly* going to be released this March along with all of Phil's other movies. Well, we'll see how that goes. This film is an example of how fucky it can go when you have a very dated film and no one wants to distribute it until it's a year and a half out of date. If I were a distributor we'd never have had this mess.

*** Love, Liza is scheduled to be screened at the 2002 Sundance Film Festival. [Thanks again to Jen for sending me the information!]

*** Someone on the PSH-OFF List reports that according to The Daily Mail, PSH's production of Jesus Hopped the A-Train will come to the Donmar Warehouse in London next March. It is currently unconfirmed as to whether PSH will be in attendence.

    11-4-2001
*** Pamela's Portraits has a new portrait of Phil from Flawless. Also be sure to check out the John C. Reilly portraits!!! They are so boss!

*** Phil is now scheduled to be in The Sweet Spot [an adaptation of the one act play Lou Gehrig Did Not Die Of Cancer by the ONE AND ONLY love of my life may he RIP, Jason Miller] with Drena De Niro [guess who her dad is?], Kevin Corrigan, and Peter Gallagher, among others. It is scheduled for release to theaters on June 6, 2002. Plot summary from The IMDB: Victor Spinilli [F.X.Vitolo] is 39 years old, going on 12. He desperately holds onto the glorious days of his youth as a promising young baseball player. But those days are past. Deeply moved by the death of a close friend, Victor wakes up one day and discovers that the surrounding world is passing him by. He now seeks a purpose to this life, and realizes that bonds, old and new, need to be fused, mended and sometimes broken in order to move ahead. 'The Sweet Spot' is a simple story about the complexities of life. It is about broken dreams and how they can stifle our lives...and it is about new aspirations and how they can create passion. Most of all, it humorously and poignantly portrays the struggles that common people go through as they attempt to 'grow up'.

*** I hear tell that LAST PARTY 2000 has been scheduled for release this month, but I couldn't find any confirmation on that. Heard anything? Please let me know! [though in my personal opinion it seems the height of silliness that this film was not released prior to the last presidential election. now I just want to see it for nostalgic and PSH reasons.]

*** Variety and Planet Impact in association with Workhouse Publicity produced a special celebrity performance of The 24 Hour Plays to aid Working Playground in their efforts to help the children of New York cope with the tragic events of September 11th. The benefit raised over $30, 000 in ticket sales alone not including individual and corporate donations.... [The 24 Hour Plays] debuted and closed in New York on Monday, September 24th, 2001 at 8pm at the Minetta Lane Theater located at 18 Minetta Lane between MacDougal and Sixth Avenue. The 24 Hour Plays were followed by an exclusive after-party at the nightclub Spa located at 76 East 13th Street at 8pm. This event was made possible by the generous support of Variety, Benihana & Haru restaurants, Grey Goose Vodka, Plymouth Gin, Illy Caffe of North America, BMG Entertainment, FIJI Natural Artesian Water, Original Sin Cider and Neibaum-Coppola Estate Wines. Benefit tickets cost $100 of which the proceeds are to be directed to the not-for-profit Working Playground and used for the creation of the children's mural honoring the victims of September 11th. Additional profits will be used to promote The Working Playground arts programs used in a number of New York City Schools.
