Joey Breaker - Daryn's Review

[Pictures]

I'm pretty damn frivilous. Or however you spell it. At least, I used to be back when I had money to spend instead of just stuff to spend it on. But I am so glad that I dropped the $5 to buy Joey Breaker. This is a terrific movie. I definately reccommend it for at least a one-time watch. I don't think it's one that I'll be watching like mad but it makes me happy that this movie was made.

Phil is so cute as Wiley McCall, Joey Breaker's assistant/secratary type person. Joey Breaker (played brilliantly by the completely underrated and probably underpaid Richard Edson probably best known to you as the garage attendant in Ferris Bueller who takes the car oot and aboot) is a talent agent. And a damn good one from whatever I could tell about them from this movie. It's like the 'Wall Street' for agents.

Anyway, it's a pretty good movie. It only touches on deeper issues but that's more than most films will bother with. There's confrontation of homophobia, AIDS-phobia, and to a lesser extent the film touches on issues of interracial relationships and sexism (though that issue wasn't wrapped up as nicely as the others were).

It's very cute and idealistic but it's much much different from most studio drivel so that's a refreshing change. And Cedella Marley (daughter of Bob) is brilliant and adorable. Also, Laurence Mason needs mention here -- you'll know him from The Crow, Hackers, etc. and he's great though his role is tiny.

All in all it's a good movie and Phil is very very cute and good in it. Check out the screencap gallery.
